Business Rates and Charges

Natural gas is a safe and reliable energy source, providing Ontarians the comfort they need. When Enbridge Gas is your gas supplier, you pay what we pay for natural gas, without mark-up. As a distribution company, we earn our income from the distribution and storage of natural gas.

What’s changing Oct. 1, 2025?

Starting Oct. 1, 2025, business customers who buy natural gas from Enbridge Gas will see a decrease in their natural gas bills ranging from about 3.5 percent to 4.8 percent per year, depending on location. The overall impact of these changes will depend on how much natural gas you use and whether you purchase your gas from a gas marketer.

These new rates will remain in effect from Oct. 1, 2025 through Dec. 31, 2025 and include any applicable temporary charges and credits.

What are the costs in my bill?

Gas commodity costs include information on the “Gas Supply Charge” and “Cost Adjustment” lines on your bill. The net natural gas rate reflects what we expect to pay for gas supplies and transportation services during the next year as well as any adjustments to make up the difference between our forecast cost for gas and actual costs from prior periods. Also, in the Union South rate zone (Rate M1 and M2), the cost of transportation to Ontario is included in the “Gas Supply Charge”.

Transportation costs include information on the “Transportation to Enbridge” and “Cost Adjustment” lines on your bill and reflect the cost of transporting natural gas into Ontario from its North American sources.

Transportation costs vary depending on where you live due to changing fuel prices, pipeline tolls and available capacity on pipelines serving different parts of Ontario. For customers in the Union South zone (Rate M1 and M2), the transportation cost is included in the “Gas Supply Charge” line on your bill.

Delivery costs include information on the “Delivery to You” line on your bill and reflect the cost of delivering natural gas to your home or business as well as an adjustment to make up the difference between our forecast and actual delivery rates from prior periods, through our safe and reliable distribution system. This charge also includes a facility carbon charge which is associated with the costs to operate Enbridge Gas’ facilities to deliver natural gas to you. Storage and load balancing costs are also included in the "Delivery to You" line item and reflect the cost of storing natural gas so it is available when you need it.

The customer charge partially covers the cost of maintaining a safe and reliable natural gas distribution system. It includes things like meter reading, customer services and 24-hour emergency response.

The OEB previously approved a rate adjustment (Rider E) to reflect changes to Enbridge Gas' 2024 rates for the period of Jan. 1, 2024 to Dec. 31, 2024. These rates will continue to be applied to customers’ bills from Jan. 1, 2025 to Dec. 31, 2025 and will be included in the Delivery to You, Transportation to Enbridge and Gas Supply Commodity sections. The total impact on your bill will depend on your usage.

Natural gas supplies from an energy marketer

If you purchase your natural gas supplies from an energy marketer, the price you pay for your gas depends on the terms of your contract. Customers served by an energy marketer can find their rate notices below.

Customers in the former Union Gas service area:

  • Business rates on these pages typically apply to medium - large commercial and small industrial customers. Customers include small businesses, small greenhouses, restaurants, hotels and retail stores who consume more than 50,000 m3 of natural gas each year.
  • Small businesses located in the Union rate zones that consume less than 50,000 m3 of natural gas each year are listed in the residential rates section.
  • Large commercial and industrial businesses that have signed a contract with Enbridge Gas can be found in the commercial and industrial rates section.

Note: For customers connecting to natural gas in new communities or new expansion areas, an additional surcharge may apply.

Do I have choices when buying natural gas?

When it comes to buying natural gas, you have choices—you can purchase natural gas from Enbridge Gas or from a retail energy marketer. Even if you purchase from an energy marketer, we will continue to be the ones delivering the natural gas to your home, safely and reliably.

Energy marketers are independent businesses licensed by the OEB, however their pricing options are not regulated by the OEB. If you purchase your natural gas supplies from an energy marketer, the price you pay for your gas depends on the terms of your contract. Always know the terms and conditions of any contract you sign – the price offered, exit conditions, cancellation fees and renewal options.
