Natural gas is a great value for your energy dollar

Natural gas is a dependable and affordable option, at about half the price of oil or propane and 48 percent less expensive than electric resistance (for example, baseboard heating).* Like other utilities, we buy wholesale to then deliver natural gas to you—you pay what we pay, without markup.

You can find information on our most current residential and business rates online, anytime.

Your questions answered

Here are explanations of some of your most pressing questions.

Number one

Why do natural gas prices change?

Enbridge Gas buys natural gas at a number of market supply hubs in Western Canada and the U.S. We pay market prices for natural gas and then pay other pipeline companies to transport the gas from supply hubs into our distribution system in Ontario. We adjust the rates we charge our customers for these items quarterly to reflect changes in market prices, which are passed through to our customers without mark-up. In addition, there are adjustments for the difference between our forecast costs and the actual costs from prior periods.

By buying gas at different times throughout the year and using a variety of contract lengths, we help reduce the impact of market price changes for our customers.

Number two

What’s changing April 1, 2024?

Starting April 1, 2024, customers will see a reduction in the rates they pay, reflecting decreases in market prices of natural gas supplies and the transportation of natural gas into our distribution system in Ontario.

Also effective April 1, the federal carbon charge will increase from 12.39 cents/m3 to 15.25 cents/m3. It's forecasted that for the average Ontario household, the federal carbon charge will add about $336-$366 to your annual natural gas bill between April 2024 and March 2025 (depending on your location). This charge increases annually each April and all of the money collected for this charge goes to the government.

Number three

How are rates set and how often do they change?

The rates for natural gas and gas transportation services (getting gas to you) are based on forecasts of what we expect to pay in the coming months. Because actual market costs can differ from our forecasts, adjustments are made quarterly (Jan. 1, April 1, July 1 and Oct. 1) subject to OEB approval. You pay what we pay for these services and nothing more. The costs are passed on to you without any markup.

Number four

What is Enbridge Gas doing to help me manage my natural gas bills?

We also offer various programs to help you lower your energy use and budget your payments. Relief plans are also available to eligible customers.
