When temperatures drop, energy use goes up.
During colder months, heating can account for as much as 50% of energy use in normal weather (more in extreme cold):
- Keep your thermostat set at 68 degrees or lower.
- Limit the use of electric space heaters for supplemental heating.
- Get an HVAC tune-up annually.
- Change filters monthly or when dirty.
- Set your water heater to "warm," or 120 degrees.

- Choose energy-efficient devices and appliances
- Upgrade to ENERGY STAR® certified LED bulbs
- Check ductwork for leaks/tears and repair as needed
