Don't fall for scammers pretending to be Enbridge Gas Ohio

Scammers are sophisticated and use many schemes to trick you into providing your personal information. They pretend to be Enbridge Gas Ohio by using our branded logos, creating fake websites and phone numbers or claiming to be affiliated with us when they aren’t. What can we do? We can work together to defeat scamming.

If you suspect that you have fallen victim to a scam, please contact Enbridge Gas Ohio at 1-800-362-7557 or your local police.

Online

  • Enbridge Gas Ohio has discovered a suspected scam where fraudsters have created fake Enbridge Gas Ohio websites with false contact numbers. The scammers impersonate call center agents and trick customers into providing them with credit card, account balance and other payment information over the phone claiming to pay their gas bill. Enbridge Gas Ohio does not offer discounts on natural gas bills, our agents don’t take payments over the phone and would not require verification of your banking information to access your gas account.
  • A series of social media ads are offering free smart thermostats, free energy savings kits, energy rebates or gas bill rebates. These ads are posted by various accounts who claim to be associated with Enbridge Gas Ohio. Our social media channels are @EnbridgeGasOhio on Facebook, Instagram and X, as well as @Enbridge on LinkedIn.
  • Customers have reported an email is being sent for a free heat pump.

At your door

At Enbridge Gas Ohio, all employees and authorized contractors are required to wear visible photo identification.

Illustration of identifying Enbridge Gas field representatives

Enbridge Gas Ohio does not perform physical meter readings. Our meters are read remotely. An Enbridge Gas Ohio field technician will not come to your door asking to gain entry to your home to read a meter.

If you have an inside meter, a technician must inspect it every 36 months per US DOT regulations. You will receive communication about this service and are required to schedule it through our call center or Manage Your Account. You should not receive an unexpected visit from a technician claiming to need to access your meter for an inspection.

If there is a gas service interruption in your area, a field technician will come to your home to relight appliances after service has been restored. An automated phone call (robocall) is sent to all customers impacted by an outage unless they have opted out of such calls. You can verify whether your gas service is on by checking the pilot light of a natural gas appliance in your home.

Natural Gas Marketers

Occasionally, you may be visited by someone offering you a lower rate on your natural gas (they often will offer lower rates on electric service as well). These marketers represent suppliers through the Energy Choice program. While their organizations work with Enbridge Gas Ohio to supply natural gas to customers, they do not work for Enbridge Gas Ohio. If a marketer claims to be an employee of Enbridge Gas Ohio, please ask to see identification. This identification should include the name of the company that they represent. You can submit a complaint to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio at (800) 686-7826 if a supplier marketer misrepresents themselves. Learn more about the Energy Choice Program.
