Are you building a new home or business and need to request natural gas service?
Would you like to submit a request to convert to natural gas from a different energy source?
Are you adding a natural gas appliance to your home or business, or looking to relocate your meter?

You can depend on us to work with you to bring natural gas into your new home or business.
We will be with you every step of the way.

Steps to apply for natural gas service

  • Please submit your residential application 6-8 weeks in advance of your service location being ready for service. Every request is carefully reviewed and planned to ensure that we offer safe and reliable service to your building.
  • If your project requires a gas main line extension, please allow 6 months for planning and construction of your project.
  • For commercial and industrial requests, please allow a minimum of 12 weeks for planning. These are specialized requests that may require equipment not typically in inventory.

We will determine if a gas main line is available and can reliably serve your request or if a main line extension is needed.

This entails working with our internal and external partners to meet construction requirements, set up your account in our system, order the metering equipment and other materials, prepare construction paperwork, apply for permits, clear environmental or land issues, etc. We will also notify you of the next steps as we may need additional forms from you and/or to schedule an appointment to meet with you on site.

Once it is ready, we will send the project to our contractor to schedule the installation of the service line.

The site is "ready" when:

  • the property is at least 6" from final grade and no more grade cutting will take place,
  • the electric service has been energized,
  • the walls and roof are up,
  • construction material (scaffolding, dirt piles, building material, dumpsters, etc.) has been removed.

We require that the house line - the internal gas line for the building - is stubbed out and pressure tested and tied in to the meter bar. The HIR Form contains the requirements that must be met by the applicant prior to Enbridge Gas installing a meter and turning the service on. Once you return the HIR Form, fully and properly completed, and signed, we will contact you to schedule your Meter Set appointment to activate your service and account.

Glossary of terms

Please keep in mind that there may be additional time and fees for main line extensions, upgrade requests or relocation requests and if equipment needs to be ordered, your project may take slightly longer.
