We are expanding service to provide reliable natural gas to East Gwillimbury residents. Natural gas is a cost-effective solution that can help lower your energy bills.

This project includes the construction of approximately 37.3kms of natural gas pipeline, and two stations to total an estimated cost of $8.4M, made possible by:

  • A $1/month contribution from new and existing natural gas utility customers in Ontario, which was implemented on July 1, 2019.
  • An expansion surcharge (ES) of $0.23 per cubic metre of natural gas used will apply to all customers who connect to the community expansion pipe until the end of the expansion surcharge term.
    • For example if a residential home used 2,320m3 of natural gas per year this charge would be $0.23m3 x 2,320m3/12 months= $44/month.
    • The ES is typically higher in the winter months when the heating system is in use vs summer months.
  • A $8.4 million from the Ontario Government’s Natural Gas Expansion Program.

We’re working in many project areas across Ontario as we prepare for future natural gas community expansion projects as part of the Ontario Government’s Natural Gas Expansion Program. Area residents may see our crews completing soil sampling, land surveying, test digs and holding field meetings, which are all activities that help inform our project routes and timelines for construction. This pre-work is ongoing, and you may occasionally notice equipment in operation, and some noise. We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. This work is being conducted by Enbridge Gas employees, or contractors working on our behalf. All employees and contractors carry identification at all times.

Where will gas be available?

*Natural gas project scope subject to change during the design and construction phases of the project.

For the environmental study, a 125 metre Study Area will be captured on either side of the Preliminary Preferred Route and ancillary facilities. Due to the size and scale of this map, a 125 metre Study Area would not be clearly visible.

Preliminary Preferred Route (PPR)

  • The project involves the construction of two stations; one near the intersection of Mount Albert Road and McCowan Road and one near the intersection north of Warden Avenue and Doane Road.
  • Enbridge Gas has identified a preliminary preferred route consisting of multiple small segments of plastic distribution pipeline, of which includes a combination of approximately 27 kilometres (km) and 10.3 km of 2- inch polyethylene (PE), and 4- inch PE, respectively, for a total of approximately 37.3 kilometers (km).
  • The preliminary preferred route includes segments along Bathurst Street, Queensville Sideroad, Davis Drive, McCowan Road, and Mount Albert Road at Yonge Street. Also included are proposed segments in Holland Landing along 2nd Concession Road south of Mount Albert Road. Additionally, there are proposed segments to tie into existing infrastructure at Woodbine and Holborn Road, Mount Albert Road and McCowan Road, Centre Street, McCowan Road and Ravenshoe Road.
  • Please refer to the map to see the proposed routes and study areas for the project.
  • Enbridge Gas has hired Dillon Consulting Limited, a third-party environmental consultant, to complete a detailed review of the proposed route in terms of the environmental and socio-economic impacts.
  • The final pipeline route is determined based on Enbridge Gas’ current infrastructure in place, the results of the environmental assessment of the proposed routes and in consultation with affected Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and public input.
  • As this is a community expansion project, the final route also considers servicing the largest number of potential customers.

The preliminary proposed route(s) and ancillary facilities have been developed for purposes of an assessment of potential environmental and socioeconomic impacts and do not represent the final project scope/design that will provide access to natural gas to end-use customers.
