Once your heating contractor submits an application, you will receive a verification email to confirm your address and possible charges that may apply.

You must complete this verification step for the application process to continue.

  • This is a critical step. For your safety, natural gas service will not be installed until Enbridge Gas or one of our authorized contracted partners contacts you.
  • A meeting will be scheduled to locate and mark all existing underground services.
  • Access to the inside of your home will be needed to ensure your new gas line won't interfere with your sewer connection.

Enbridge Gas will work with you to schedule a service install to meet your timeline. Our construction contractor will be in contact in advance to plan for access and answer any questions you may have about the work. The preferred installation method will be open excavation and all efforts will be made to reduce impacts to the existing property. If any restoration is required after installation, it will be scheduled when weather conditions permit.

Due to the compressed construction season in northern communities (Orillia to Kenora), Enbridge Gas employs a cut-off date of Sept. 1 for applications to be considered for installation in the same construction season.

In all other regions:

  • Enbridge Gas employs a cut-off date of Sept. 30 for applications to be considered for installation in the same construction season.
  • Applications received between Oct. 1 and March 31 will have an extended construction time.
  • Your heating contractor will make an appointment to remove the old equipment and install your new equipment.
  • At the same appointment, your contractor will arrange for your meter to be installed and activated.
  • Your new equipment will be turned on and, in accordance with the Technical Standards and Safety Act, we will then conduct a safety inspection.

Please note, Enbridge Gas recommends not disconnecting your existing heating equipment until the day the Enbridge Gas inspector is to activate the service and complete the safety inspection.

To inquire if there is natural gas on your street or if you are interested in having natural gas extended to your area, complete the natural gas inquiry form. You can expect to hear from us within a week.

Based on the information provided in the inquiry form, we'll confirm whether or not it is feasible to extend natural gas service to your area.

A customer contribution may be required to extend gas service. If that is the case, we'll provide an estimate of your contribution cost and ask if you'd like us to continue exploring extending gas to your address. An alternative contribution method which may apply is the expansion surcharge.

Our estimate only covers the cost to extend natural gas to your street. To find out the cost of switching your home and equipment to natural gas, speak with a TSSA-registered heating contractor. See below for more details.

If the estimated contribution is acceptable and you would like to proceed, please reply to the email you received. This confirmation is non-binding and no fees are required at this step. If you have neighbors located between your home and the natural gas connection, and they also choose to connect to natural gas, you could reduce your costs by sharing the cost of bringing natural gas to your street. If they're interested, tell them to complete an inquiry form and include the reference number from your inquiry.

We will finalize the design and cost of extending natural gas to your address. The time needed for this step depends on the specific requirements of your project. We may contact you and book a visit to your property to further investigate the cost and timeframe of the project.

Any required customer contribution must be collected before the project can start. Depending on the area, an expansion surcharge may be required. Information regarding a surcharges will be shared with you and will need to be agreed to before construction will begin.

Please note some additional charges which may apply:

  • Enbridge Gas installs gas service lines, from the street to the house, for no charge up to a length of 20m. Service lines beyond these lengths are subject to additional length charges and need to be agreed to when your detailed service request is submitted. The charges are billed based on actual length of service pipe installed and will be included on your first gas bill.
  • There is a one-time initiation fee to open your account. A customer charge fee will also be added to your bill monthly to help partially cover the cost of maintaining a safe and reliable natural gas distribution system.

Once your heating contractor submits an application, you will receive a verification email to confirm your address and possible charges that may apply.

  • If your service line or meter needs to be upgraded Enbridge Gas will reach out to your heating contractor to advise next steps.
  • Your contractor will arrange for your meter to be exchanged and activated (if required).
