To support the development of low-carbon renewable energy in Ontario and to meet the requirements of its customer, Enbridge Gas is proposing to build a new pipeline and injection station to connect a new renewable natural gas (RNG) facility being constructed by SBE Limited Partnership (SBE) in Elmira, Ontario.

The SBE anaerobic digester facility diverts organic waste from landfills and turns it into low-carbon renewable energy by capturing biogas generated by decomposing organic waste. This biogas can be transformed into RNG.

The project includes the construction of an RNG injection station, at the SBE site. The RNG will then be introduced into the natural gas system at the existing Enbridge Gas Owen Sound Transmission Pipeline, via a proposed new 4-inch steel pipeline, approximately 2.9 km long.

Selection of the Preferred Route

Three Routes were considered in the preliminary assessment of this project.

The Preferred Route was selected based on the results of the routing constraints analysis conducted for the project, as well as the results of the first public information sessions and ongoing consultation and engagement efforts.

The routing constraints analysis compared the Preliminary Preferred Route and the two Alternate Routes based on potential identified environmental and socio-economic impacts.

The Preferred Route includes construction of a 4-inch steel natural gas pipeline, approximately 2.9 km long. The Preferred Route starts at the proposed RNG Injection Station on the customer site at 50 Martins Lane. After leaving the customer site, the pipeline would run west along Martins Lane for 400 m, before turning north along Arthur Street North for approximately 1.35 km. It would then turn west along Reid Woods Drive for 1.15 km, before tying into the existing Owen Sound Transmission Line.

The Preferred Route is highlighted in orange on the map linked on the right-hand side of this page. The two Alternate Routes that were considered during the preliminary assessment but are no longer being pursued are shown in grey.
